Flock of Birds

Flock of Birds is a 6 degree of freedom (6DOF) tracker used for tracking 1-4 sensors simultaneously. 
Each Flock receiver makes up to 144 position and orientation measurements per second. Track the motion of just your head or all the key joints of your body without degradation in update rate or an increase in lag. Whichever way you turn, every motion is captured. 
You need not worry about losing data due to blocking problems. The Flock's pulsed DC magnetic fields permeate all non-metallic objects. Even in the presence of metallic structures, the Flock makes its measurements with only a fraction of the distortion errors experienced by AC electromagnetic tracking devices. That's why the Flock is used in harsh environments - ranging from tank and flight simulator to gait labs and movie sound stages. 
For sit-down applications in medicine, virtual reality, and simulation, use the economical standard range transmitter to track motions over a four-foot radius. For animation, biomechanics, and walk-around applications, move up to the extended range transmitter (ERT). It increases range to a 10-foot radius and is the choice of animators worldwide for proven long-range performance. Linked together, dual ERTs provide enough coverage to fill a large room. 
The Flock employs a separate microprocessor for each of its sensors and a Fast Bird Bus (FBB) to minimize communication time. The result is fast delivery of sensed motions with low levels of lag no matter how many points are being tracked. You never suffer from reduced measurement rates when adding additional sensors. 
Flock trackers work with all major computer platforms. Powerful software interfaces are readily available for simulation, virtual reality, biomechanics and medical applications. 
The Flock is available in many flexible configurations. Long-range coverage is easily added by 'clicking in' the Extended Range Transmitter (ERT). For quick and easy interface, simply plug in the RS-232 cable to your host computer.

Full functionality of the Flock with miniature sensors, as small as 5 mm wide, especially useful for medical imaging. Sensors are small enough to be inserted in endoscopes or attached to probes, trocars, biopsy needles, diagnostic devices, and other instruments for instantaneous localization of their position and orientation.

It is ideally suited for head-tracking applications in which one needs to look around virtual environments and simulated worlds.Magnetic tracking with miniaturized sensors miniBIRD measures the real-time position and orientation (six degrees of freedom) of one or miniaturized sensors. Clinical applications miniBIRD collects the spatial data necessary for accurate 3D reconstruction of ultrasound images of the heart, blood vessels, stomach, and other organs. In one major new application, its sensors continuously monitor the descent of the fetal head during human labor to optimize outcome while minimizing C-sections. Dual mini sensors are used for differential readings of anatomical structures and for tracking multiple instruments. These approaches provide accurate volume measurements and precise navigation inside the body. For example, miniBIRD ensures that biopsy needles reach their target by correlating needle orientation with ultrasound imagery.

MotionStar is the world's most popular motion-capture tracker for character animation and biomechanics. It simultaneously captures the motions of up to 90 sensors mounted on one or performers interacting on a full-sized stage. Each sensor is tracked up to 120 times per second to capture and filter fast complex motions with instantaneous feedback. It utilizes a single rack-mounted chassis for each set of 18 sensors. MotionStar Wireless utilises pulsed DC magnetic fields emitted by its extended range transmitter(s) to track the position and orientation of its sensors. Sensors are mounted at key points of articulation on the bodies of one or performers. Inputs from the sensors travel via cables to a miniature, battery-powered electronics unit mounted in a back pack. From here, sensor data and other signals from body-mounted peripherals, such as data gloves are sent through the air to the base station for processing. They are then transmitted to your host computer via high-speed ethernet interface, all in real time!

ReActor2 captures the movements of an un tethered performer – free to move in a capture area bordered by modular bars that fasten together. The digital detectors embedded in the frame provide full coverage of performers while minimizing blocked markers. The Instant Marker Recognition instantly reacquires blocked markers for clean data. This means less post processing and a efficient motion capture pipeline.

The performer wears an ergonomically-designed, lightweight motion suit fitted with robust, slim-line active IR markers. These are connected to a belt pack by thin, flexible cables. The belt pack communicates with the ReActor 2 PC via a wireless radio link. Its dual battery packs fit snugly on the waist belt. These batteries power the suit and can be detached for recharge/replacement in seconds.

The ReActor 2 PC performs data processing and outputs time-stamped records to a host computer for instant display of animated motions. Motion files can be transmitted across a network or the Internet for remote visualization, editing, or further processing. Motion files compress to just 100 kilobytes/minute of data to facilitate handling and transmission.

ReActor 2 can be used in natural light and requires no calibration. Since a significant amount of signal processing is already carried out by electronics in the bars and PC, ReActor 2's data is extremely clean. Little or no post processing is required. Occlusion is also handled intelligently thereby minimizing marker dropout.
